THE BEGINNING:

In the summer of 2008, my grandmother passed unexpectedly.  I was extremely close to her, and it destroyed me.  I was young and had no idea how to handle such a tragic occurrence in my life.  Unfortunately, I resorted straight to eating junk food and watching as many movies as I could in order to take my mind off of things.  This continued for another 7 years.  It felt like a runaway train that I could never quite catch to stop.  In 2008, I weighed around 190 pounds.  Over the course of the next 7 long years of my health spiraling out of control, I would gain over 40 pounds.  I would develop high blood pressure, extremely elevated liver enzymes, severe back aches, loud snoring at night, and circulation issues in my ankles.

THE REALIZATION:

At the end of September 2015, I had just returned from Las Vegas, NV after working our P28 Booth at the Olympia Expo.  I was going through a few photos from the event, and was shocked at one particular picture that caught my eye.  It was a picture of myself at the booth with our team.  Everyone looks in incredible shape. They fit in perfect physically at our booth, being at the largest fitness show of the year. Except for me. I looked heavily overweight. I didn’t fit in at all, physically speaking.  I was extremely embarrassed. I am not sure why it took me 7 long years to realize the downward spiral I had been putting myself through.  However, I am thankful the picture was sent to me and that it had such an impactful effect on me.

THE CHANGE:

I made a pact with myself on October 1st, 2015, after weighing myself the night before and realizing I was at an all-time high, 230 pounds. I decided that immediately, I would give everything I had to make a complete lifestyle change and become healthy and lose weight.  I never again wanted to look like I did in that Olympia photo. I never again wanted to weigh myself and see what I had just seen on that scale.  I wanted to make this change fast, but not in an extremely unhealthy or unnatural way.

I decided to take the first two months and slowly change my diet and weed out the enormously unhealthy foods/drinks I was consuming.  With insight from P28 Co-Founder, Billy Sullivan, I realized this would be the smarter approach instead of stopping everything immediately and doing this cold turkey.  Also, I decided to visit the gym at least 3-4 times per week to become more active and fit.

I won’t lie. I was scared at first because I knew that the bad foods I was consuming each day were delicious and it’d be hard to not crave them daily. But I also realized, I work for such an incredible company like P28.  I am surrounded by healthy foods such as Breads, Bagels, Wraps, Spreads, and Pancakes that actually taste delicious!  I knew for a fact I would have to incorporate these foods into my daily meals in order to eat healthy and not fall back into eating junk. I need to feel like I’m cheating, without actually cheating.

On January 1st, I decided to weight myself for the first time in 2 months.  The scale read 215 pounds. I was ecstatic!  My daily diet at that point was about 80% healthy. I had made it a point to eat at least (1) P28 product each day during this time.

THE NEXT LEVEL:

On January 11th, I joined a 12-week Bodybuilding.com Transformation Challenge.  I was as motivated as I had ever been in my life. I had just seen a 20-pound loss in weight, and I was craving more. I was slightly noticing physical changes, but more importantly, I was noticing the change on the inside.  My mood was much better. My health was improving. I was definitely trending in the right direction. I was addicted to the improvements. I wanted more.

I had never set any goals on this journey except that I wanted to get healthy.  It was that simple. However, with seeing the weight loss and being part of this transformation challenge, I now started to put a numbered goal that I wanted to obtain, in order to keep pushing me.  I started the 12-week challenge at 210 pounds.  My goal at the end of the 12 weeks, was to be 190 pounds.  That would have been another 20-pound loss.

With special guidance, I was advised on a full fledged diet and workout regimen that would help me reach my goal. The key stipulation in my diet, was to make sure I continued incorporating at least one P28 product daily.  I knew that these products helped me so dramatically losing that first 20 pounds, it would be pivotal to keep that going for this particular challenge.

THE PRESENT:

It’s been about 6 total months since I decided to make a lifestyle change.  I now find myself sitting down to write this, weighing 180 pounds (50-pound loss!) and feeling like a completely new man. I blew away my 190-pound goal.  I proved all those people wrong that kept telling me I would fall off the wagon and wouldn’t stick to it because it seemed too much of a daunting task. I did a complete 180 on my health.  My blood pressure is under control and in terrific condition.  My liver enzymes are back to normal. My back pains are no more. I don’t snore any longer. And my ankle circulation is now just fine.

I did all this by being motivated to live a longer and healthier life. I was tired of being embarrassed in pictures, and being insecure talking to people face to face. I made a plan and stuck to it. I worked extremely hard and made sure to eat healthy each and every day. And the beautiful thing is, I was able to enjoy all of my favorite P28 products each and every day, incorporating it into my meals at least 3 times per day. Never feeling guilty. Never thinking that a healthy diet is boring. P28 helped me enjoy foods that I never thought I would be able to when transitioning to a healthy diet. I have always been a firm believer in our mission here at P28.  However, I now have a complete understanding of how our products can benefit someone so greatly. I am living proof.
